The stage for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies was built in the form of a huge ice plateau at the foot of the mountains. The stage was “dry land” for the Opening Ceremony, but for the Closing Ceremony, it was turned into a real skating rink where guests and participants of the Games could enjoy the Russian Winter Stars multimedia performance. Just like reflections in the faces of an ice crystal, different episodes of this show portrayed the images of Russia, showing its past, present and the future, rendered to the spectators through the works of great Russian painters, poets and composers. A number of stars of the Russian opera, figure skating and ice acrobatics, as well as consummate musicians, ice skater, aerial gymnasts and dance troupe members participated in the show. The Closing Ceremony brightly ended with the final song that was specially written for the Games and performed by the winners of the Voice entertainment project sliding over the audience in a cable car.
The show was broadcast live on Match TV channel.
This extremely complex high-profile project was highly praised by the guests and participants of the Games from 26 countries of the world.
